Owen Burns, a thirteen-year-old resident of Alpena Township, Michigan, was preparing to play ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ when he heard his eight-year-old sister screaming outside. Upon looking out the window, he observed a man pulling her towards the woods.
In a swift action, Owen seized his $3 slingshot and launched a marble and a rock, striking the kidnapper in the forehead and on the chest. The assailant, a 17-year-old, then fled the scene. Owen’s courageous act ultimately led to the rescue of his sister.
The siblings contacted their mother, who subsequently notified the authorities. The Michigan State Police later apprehended the suspect, who is set to face charges as an adult.
Lt. John Grimshaw described Owen’s actions as “extraordinary,” stating that he saved his sister from a potentially grave situation. Authorities verified that the suspect sustained injuries consistent with a slingshot assault.
At first, Owen’s mother found it hard to accept his account. Owen explained to her, ‘Events depicted in films can and do occur in reality.’
Owen’s courageous deeds received extensive acclaim.
